BENTLEY WARREN—A LIVING LEGEND
On Wednesday, February 17, 2016, Bentley Warren was honored by the Living Legends of Auto Racing at their annual dinner in Daytona Beach, Florida. He was introduced by auto racing book publisher and former race car driver Lew Boyd who shared with the sold-out crowd stories from the life and times of one of the museum's strongest supporters. When the event ended, Bentley was surrounded by autograph seekers and fans who wanted their photo taken with him. He is a free spirit whose favorite mode of transportation is on one of his Harley motorcycles. He knows how to have a good time but he also knows when it's time to get serious. Bentley's biography is available in book form from Coastal181.com. The basics of his record follows. He won the Oswego Speedway championship seven times, the ISMA championship four times. Bentley took home the first place trophy at Oswego's International Classic six times, the Star Speedway Classic six times, the Sandusky (OH) Classic three times, the Copper World (AZ) in 1985 and the Little 500 in Anderson, Indiana in 1995 and 1997. In a career that stretched from his youth to his 70s, Bentley won at 34 tracks from Canada to Florida to Arizona. He has an enormous fan following that includes the people he raced against, the people he does business with, racing fans, people who ride motorcycles and even Dale Earnhardt Jr. Bentley sure knows how to have a good time which brings thousands to the now world famous Bentley's Saloon in Arundel, Maine. That establishment, which he built from the ground up with his companion Lisa Zatalava (with whom he is pictured here), may well be the most successful restaurant/bar in Maine. A bit further south in Ipswich, MA, his daughter Lisa Warren and long-time friend Mike White run Bentley Warren Trucking. The sand and gravel operation is one of the biggest and most successful of its kind in New England. He built that business from the ground up as well. We are proud of Bentley Warren and respect his achievements in business and in racing. All of us at the Racing History Preservation Group are grateful for his help in building the North East Motor Sports Museum. Back |
