RHPG Board Member Gil Coraine Receives NHRA Lifetime Achievement Award
On Saturday, September 13, Gil Coraine was given a Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Hot Rod Association at the second annual Hot Rod Reunion at New England Dragway. The award included a coveted "Wally" trophy, named in honor of NHRA founder Wally Parks. Coraine was one of the founders of New England Dragway and has worked for over 50 years to grow drag racing and hot rodding. The story of the track’s first event in Drag World Magazine was written by Gil Coraine. He has been New England Dragway’s publicist, a shareholder, a member of its Board of Directors and its announcer. Coraine said his Wally will be placed next to his favorite trophy, a drawing of a trophy his son made in the first grade that included the words "Dad of the Year."
