Magnificent Trophy Collection Donated



Dave Sanderson was a young drag racing star in the 1950s, winning races at Sanford (ME), Charlstown (RI) and places outside of New England. He tragically perished at age 23. Cindy Potter, the daughter he never met because Sanderson died before she was born, inherited his massive trophy collection and has donated it all to the North East Motor Sports Museum.

RHPG Board Member Gil Coraine Receives NHRA Lifetime Achievement Award



On Saturday, September 13, Gil Coraine was given a Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Hot Rod Association at the second annual Hot Rod Reunion at New England Dragway. The award included a coveted "Wally" trophy, named in honor of NHRA founder Wally Parks. Coraine was one of the founders of New England Dragway and has worked for over 50 years to grow drag racing and hot rodding.

Racing History Preservation Group at New England Dragway 09/12-14

The Racing History Preservation Group will exhibit at New England Dragway’s Hot Rod Reunion on September 12, 13, 14. The event brings together hundreds of vintage race cars and hot rods. A huge crowd will be on hand for this, the second running of this special NHRA-sanctioned event. Our display will hold the famed Bannister Dragster owned by Paul Aldrich who will be on hand during the weekend along with the sport’s Gil Coraine who will be honored by the NHRA on Saturday. The Racing History Preservation Group At NHMS!



Board Members of the Racing History Preservation Group exhibited at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the duration of the big mid-July NASCAR weekend. Bob Coy provided a 1930s European motorcycle, Ken Smith brought his photo and newspaper clipping scrapbooks and Ray Boissoneau loaned his magnificent Drew Fornoro-driven NEMA midget for fans to enjoy.

We are grateful to Maxine Snelgrove for the donation of her father’s (Howard Jackson), helmet, gloves and goggles worn in the 1940s and 50s. She believes Mauri Rose also wore the helmet. This gift is Maxine’s second to the North East Motor Sports Museum.

Annual Meeting Recap



The annual Open Meeting of the Racing History Preservation Group was held on Saturday, April 19, at the Stafford Speedway function hall. Members saw preliminary drawings done by architect Dan Skully of the new museum building which will be approximately 10,000 square feet. It will be a one story building. The design will permit expansion.

The Racing History Preservation Group board members Mark Hann, Paul Giblin, Al Novotnik and Skip Matczak recently attended the Frank Maratta Auto Show and Race-A-Rama in West Springfield, MA with a display for the North East Motor Sports Museum. The show offered something for everyone from custom cars and motorcycles to hot rods and race cars.

We are grateful to Barry Barnes (pictured) who donated a handmade model of George Rice’s 1948-championship winning midget. The model was treasured by Barry’s father and will be on display at the North East Motor Sports Museum.

Museum Present At February and March Events



It may be winter outside but that does not stop the Racing History Preservation Group board members from spreading the word about the North East Motor Sports Museum. The winter months provides the group with several opportunities to have a display at racing related shows around the Northeast area.
